VERSES FROM THE QUR´AN ABOUT THE TORAH SENT TO JEWISH PEOPLE

VERSES FROM THE QUR´An ABOUT THE TORAH SENT TO JEWISH PEOPLE

We sent down the Torah containing guidance and light, and the prophets who had submitted themselves gave judgement by it for the Jews – as did their scholars (Rabaniyun) and their rabbis (Ahbar)- by what they had been allowed to preserve of Allah’s Book to which they were witnesses… (Surat al-Ma’ida, 44)
Then We gave Moses the Book, complete and perfect for him who does good, elucidating everything, and a guidance and a mercy, so that hopefully they believe in their encounter with their Lord. (Surat al-An’am, 154)
But before it there was the Book of Moses as a model (imam) and a mercy. And this is a corroborating Book in the Arabic tongue so that you may warn those who do wrong, and as good news for the good-doers. (Surat al-Ahqaf, 12)
We sent Moses with Our signs: “Bring your people from the darkness to the light. and remind them of the Days of Allah.” There are certainly signs in that for everyone who is steadfast, thankful. (Surah Ibrahim, 5)
He (Allah) said, “Moses, I have chosen you over all mankind for My message and My word. Take what I have given you and be among the thankful. “We wrote about everything for him on the Tablets as an admonition and making all things clear. “Seize hold of it vigorously and command your people to adopt the best in it. I will show you the home of the deviators!” (Surat al-A’raf, 144-145)
When Moses’s anger abated he picked up the Tablets and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for all of them who feared their Lord. (Surat al-A’raf, 154)
We gave Moses the Book -be in no doubt about the meeting with him- and made it a guidance for the tribe of Israel. (Surat as-Sajda, 23)
Say, “We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us and what was sent down to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Tribes, and what Moses and Jesus were given, and what all the prophets were given by their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. We are Muslims submitted to Him.” (Surat al-Baqara, 136)
He has laid down the same religion for you as He enjoined on Noah: that which We have revealed to you and which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses and Jesus: “Establish the religion and do not make divisions in it.”… (Surat al-Shura, 13)
Allah has bought from the believers their selves and their wealth in return for the Garden. They fight in the way of Allah and they kill and are killed. It is a promise binding on Him in the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur’an and who is truer to his contract than Allah? Rejoice then in the bargain you have made. That is the great victory. (Surat at-Tawba, 111)

This is the account of the heavens and the Earth when they were created. When the Lord God made the Earth and the heavens -and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the Earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the Earth and there was no man to work the ground, but streams came up from the Earth and watered the whole surface of the ground- the Lord God formed the Adam from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis, 2:4-7)
Statements from the Torah Regarding the Transient Nature of This World
All our days pass away under Your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. The length of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. (Psalm, 90:9-10)
…Our days on Earth are like a shadow… (1 Chronicles, 29:15)
Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them… (Zephaniah, 1:18)
Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow… (Psalm, 144:4)
The youthful vigor that fills his bones will lie with him in the dust. (Job, 20:11)
My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue: Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before You. Each man’s life is but a breath. Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it. “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in You.” (Psalm, 39:3-7)
for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust. As for man, His days are like grass, He flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear Him… (Psalm, 103:14-18)
Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world, both low and high, rich and poor alike:… those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches? No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for Him -the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough-that he should live on forever and not see decay. For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to others. Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves. But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish… Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when the splendor of his house increases; for he will take nothing with him when he dies, his splendor will not descend with him. Though while he lived he counted himself blessed- and men praise you when you prosper- he will join the generation of his fathers, who will never see the light of life. A man who has riches without understanding is like the beasts that perish. (Psalm, 49:1-2, 6-20)
They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and they will be discarded. But You remain the same, and your years will never end. (Psalm, 102:26-27)
With Me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity. (Proverbs, 8:18)
for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations. (Proverbs, 27:24)
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (Proverbs, 31:30)
Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. (Proverbs, 11:28)
The wealth they acquired is gone.  (Jeremiah, 48:36)
In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, the earrings and bracelets and veils, the headdresses and ankle chains and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, the signet rings and nose rings, the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls. Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding. (Isaiah, 3:18-24)
What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches? (Isaiah, 10:3)
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. (Proverbs, 23:5)

He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream. What he toiled for he must give back uneaten; he will not enjoy the profit from his trading…he cannot save himself by his treasure. (Job, 20:17-20)
My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me. (Job, 17:1)
Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal…” (Genesis, 6:3)
At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent. (Proverbs, 5:11)

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the Earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. (Isaiah, 40:28)

BELIEF İN THE HEREAFTER IN THE TORAH

Resurrection
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the Earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel, 12:2)
… “will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live,”… declares the Lord. (Ezekiel, 37:13-14)
But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy… the Earth will give birth to her dead. (Isaiah, 26:19)
O Lord, You brought me up from the grave; You spared me from going down into the pit. (Psalm, 30:3)
As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance. (Daniel, 12:13)
Doomsday
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine…the Earth and the sky will tremble. (Joel, 3:14-16)
I will show wonders in the heavens and on the Earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The Sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. (Joel, 2:30-31)
Before them the Earth shakes, the sky trembles, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine… The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it? (Joel, 2:10-11)
Their slain will be thrown out… All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree. (Isaiah, 34:3-4)
The great day of the Lord is near–near and coming quickly. Listen! The cry on the day of the Lord will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers. I will bring distress on the people and they will walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord…. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath…. (Zephaniah, 1:14-18)
Alas for that day! For the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. (Joel, 1:15)
…Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand. (Joel, 2:1)
…for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. Because of this, all hands will go limp, every man’s heart will melt. Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame. See, the day of the Lord is coming -a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger- to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. (Isaiah, 13:6-11)
“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them.” (Malachi, 4:1)
Men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from dread of the Lord and the splendor of His majesty, when He rises to shake the Earth. (Isaiah, 2:19)
…That day will be darkness, not light. It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light- pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness? (Amos, 5:18-20)
Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all humanity together will see it. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah, 40:4-5)
He lifts up a banner for the distant nations, He whistles for those at the ends of the Earth. Here they come, swiftly and speedily… if one looks at the land, he will see darkness and distress; even the light will be darkened by the clouds. (Isaiah, 5:26,30)
The Day of Judgment
Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. (Joel, 3:14)
“O profane…whose day has come, whose time of punishment has reached its climax…” (Ezekiel, 21:25)
The day of the Lord is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head. (Obadiah, 1:15)
Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. (Psalm, 1:4-6)
The Lord is known by His justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God. (Psalm, 9:16-17)
Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them! They will be paid back for what their hands have done. (Isaiah, 3:10-11)
… whose day has come, whose time of punishment has reached its climax. (Ezekiel, 21:29)
Hell
… trembling grips the godless: “Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?” (Isaiah, 33:14)
before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and deep shadow, to the land of deepest night, of deep shadow and disorder, where even the light is like darkness. (Job, 10:21-22)
some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel, 12:3)

… let them go down alive to the grave, for evil finds lodging among them. (Psalm, 55:15)
The Lord brings death and makes alive; He brings down to the grave and raises up. (1 Samuel, 2:6)
… went down alive into the grave, with everything they owned… (Numbers, 16:33)
There are … four that never say, “Enough!”: the grave… (Proverbs, 30:15-16)
This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. Like sheep they are destined for the grave… their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions. But God will redeem my life from the grave; He will surely take me to Himself. (Psalm, 49:13-15)
But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: “Is this the man who shook the Earth and made kingdoms tremble, the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?” (Isaiah, 14:15-17)
Paradise
…some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel, 12:2-3)
The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. (Proverbs, 15:24)
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm, 27:13)
that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm, 116:9)
…Then man goes to his eternal home… and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God Who gave it. (Ecclesiastes, 12:5, 7)
He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil–this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him. (Isaiah, 33:15-16)
Wicked men are overthrown and are no more, but the house of the righteous stands firm… (Proverbs, 12:7)
… O God… lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm, 139:23-24)

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life… (Proverbs, 11:30)
Prophet Adam (pbuh) and the Garden of Eden
Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there He put the man [Adam] He had formed. (Genesis, 2:8)
… This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.” (Ezekiel, 28:12)
So the Lord God banished him [Adam] from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken

THE OBLIGATIONS OF FAITH İN THE TORAH

Faith in Allah without Polytheism
But I am the Lord your God,… You shall acknowledge no God but Me, no Savior except Me. (Hosea, 13:4)
O Lord… there is no God like You in heaven above or on Earth below. (1 Kings, 8:23)
I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from Me there is no God. … so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. (Isaiah, 45:5-6)
I am the Lord your God… You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the Earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them… (Exodus, 20:2-5)

This is what the Lord says, … the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from Me there is no God. (Isaiah, 44:6)
All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame. Who shapes a god and casts an idol, which can profit him nothing? He and his kind will be put to shame; craftsmen are nothing but men. Let them all come together and take their stand; they will be brought down to terror and infamy. (Isaiah, 44:9-11)
Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood,… there is no God apart from Me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but Me. “Turn to Me and be saved, all you ends of the Earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” (Isaiah, 45:20-22)

Fear the Lord your God, serve Him only and take your oaths in His name. Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you. (Deuteronomy, 6:13-14)

I have revealed and saved and proclaimed I, and not some foreign god among you … I am God.  Yes, and from ancient days I am He. When I act, who can reverse it? (Isaiah, 43:10-13)
Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak. Woe to him who says to wood, “Come to life!” Or to lifeless stone, “Wake up!” Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it. (Habakkuk, 2:18-19)
See, they are all false! Their deeds amount to nothing; their images are but wind and confusion. (Isaiah, 41:29)

But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot… from My land, which I have given them… (2 Chronicles, 7:19-20)
Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces.  Worship the Lord your God… (Exodus, 23:24-25)
